Fully Automatic Unattended Hardness Testing System

Shanghai Shangcai Testing Machine Co., Ltd. has independently developed a fully automated robotic hardness‑testing system. Built on a PLC‑based master control system, the system integrates fully automatic Rockwell, Brinell, and Vickers hardness testers, industrial robots, and automated material‑handling equipment. It can be paired with AGV carts and other conveying mechanisms to automatically transport test specimens in sequence to the testing stations. The robot picks up each specimen and places it on the hardness tester’s platform; the tester then performs multi‑point hardness measurements automatically. Upon completion, the results are evaluated against predefined acceptance criteria, sorted into designated zones, and processed in a cyclical manner, enabling fully automated hardness testing and classification of batch‑size samples.

　　Traditional hardness testing requires operators to manually handle the hardness tester, necessitating individual testing of each sample in a batch and manual recording of the data. Subsequently, classification is performed based on test results, which is labor-intensive and time-consuming. This system is specifically designed to meet customers’ needs for batch hardness testing of samples, employing… Using industrial robots and automated material-handling equipment, the system enables automated loading of batch samples, hardness testing, unloading and sorting, and data uploading. These operations can be performed without on-site personnel, significantly reducing labor costs and improving operational efficiency.

　　This system primarily comprises a PLC-based master control system, a fully automatic Rockwell hardness tester, an industrial robot, and an automated material‑handling unit, with integration facilitated by Party A. The equipped AGV automatically transports the samples in sequence to the elevator and then feeds them into the sorting machine. After setting the required number of samples and the acceptable tolerance range, The material-feeding machine automatically conveys the test specimens; a robot picks up the specimens and places them on the hardness tester’s platform; the main unit then performs the hardness measurement automatically, after which the robot retrieves the specimen. Sample pieces are sorted and placed in designated areas based on their pass/fail status, with the process repeated iteratively to complete automated hardness testing and classification of batch samples. Equipped with an inkjet or laser marking system, the samples enable traceability of test results.
