What are the characteristics of a metal Rockwell hardness tester?

Metal Rockwell hardness tester The manufacturer notes that, since hardness‑tester measurements are typically performed once a year, laboratories generally do not re‑calibrate unless significant anomalies arise. Consequently, the stability of the hardness testers used in the laboratory directly affects the accuracy of routine test results. Investigating the long-term stability of hardness testers over a defined period is of great importance for enhancing laboratory management and operational quality, particularly in fostering a strong quality mindset among testing personnel, boosting the laboratory’s reputation, and expanding its presence in the testing market.

Metal Rockwell hardness tester manufacturers define stability as the ability of a measuring instrument to maintain its metrological characteristics over time; this can be quantitatively characterized by determining the relationship between these characteristics and time. For measuring instruments—particularly reference standards, measurement standards, or certain physical measuring tools—stability is one of the key metrological properties, and the stability of the indicated value is fundamental to ensuring measurement accuracy. Numerous factors can compromise the stability of measuring instruments, including component aging, part wear, and improper use, storage, and maintenance. Periodic verification or calibration serves to assess an instrument’s stability, and stability also constitutes an important basis for scientifically and rationally determining the verification interval.

Metal Rockwell hardness tester manufacturers recommend the following maintenance for hardness testers:

  (1) The Rockwell hardness tester shall be installed on a solid foundation and leveled. Corrosive gases and vibration sources should be kept at a safe distance.

  (2) Metal Rockwell hardness testers’ manufacturers stipulate that the load‑applying rod, lifting screw, buffer, and measuring mechanism of the hardness tester shall operate smoothly and flexibly. Loading and unloading must be performed gently, without any vibration or binding.

  (3) Inspect the worktable and fixtures on both their front and side surfaces to ensure there is no damage or foreign matter. Electrical equipment must be properly grounded to prevent electric shock.

  (4) Metal Rockwell hardness testers manufacturers recommend that, prior to use, the appropriate indenter be selected according to the test requirements, and that the indenter be thoroughly cleaned with acid-free gasoline before being inserted into the spindle bushing and securely fastened. During installation, ensure that the indenter remains concentric with the spindle.

  (5) The base and supporting surfaces of all work platforms shall be clean and smooth, free from pits, deep scratches, and foreign objects. The work platform must be securely mounted on the lead screw and shall not exhibit any wobbling. In tests involving thin materials, any visible indentations on the bearing surface can lead to inaccurate results.

  (6) Metal Rockwell hardness testers’ manufacturers recommend that, at the start of each shift, the diamond indenter be inspected using a reading microscope to check its shape and surface for dust, contaminants, grease, oxide scale, cracks, or porosity; if any of these conditions are present, the instrument should be taken out of service. If the indenter is a tungsten carbide ball, its surface must be polished and free of defects, and the portion of the ball protruding from the ball socket should be no less than one-third of the ball’s diameter.
